"On Jan. 2nd, the year 2018 started with a bang that was our boiler exploding," said a statement from library Director Beth Dominianni and Jen Wastrom, president of the Board of Trustees.
"This immediately plunged our library into a deep freeze during the coldest weather on record. Amidst frigid conditions, the board and staff engaged in protecting the building and collections," said the statement, which was released Wednesday. "And we immediately began working toward replacing our boiler as quickly as possible.
All water and plumbing was also shut off to safeguard the building.
"It was a double whammy which meant we needed to stay closed. No heat and no water," the statement said.
"We are happy to report that a new boiler is in the process of being installed, and we are hopeful that all will go well in terms of bringing heat back to the building," the statement said.
They hope to open the library soon, and will announce the grand re-opening date on the website and Facebook page and via email "as soon as we possibly can."
"It promises to be a very warm celebration," the statement said.

The library's bookdrop has been sealed to prevent further cold air from entering the building. Temperatures dropped to single digits on many days in the past week.
Patrons can hold onto items until the library reopens. No fines will be charged on any overdue items.
"And don’t forget you can still use our downloadable resources," the statement said. "We very much appreciate your patience and look forward to welcoming you back into the building as soon as possible."
The History Book Club meeting scheduled for today, Jan. 10, has been rescheduled for Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
